Carpet Cleaning Issues
08/28/2013 Back To BlogThere are many issues that can occur to your carpet over time. It can get dirty, stained, burned, and even discolored. There are several ways to correct the problem. You can either simply move the couch over the area, or you can follow these simple steps of dirty rug cleaning to restore it back to tip top shape. These will also work for upholstery cleaning.
Spot Touchup
Spot removal products are commonly used to remove carpet stains and clean filthy areas. Sometimes this doesn’t always work. There are some cases where the cleaning solution causes the carpet to change colors. To solve carpet discoloration you should do one of two things: re-clean with a different solution or use some acrylic paint matching the color to touchup the area. If this doesn’t do the job, try a permanent marker or felt marker that matches the same color. Take your time to blend the coloring deeply into the fibers.
Raising Dents
Heavy furniture such as a couch is known to leave indented impressions on the floor. This can be very annoying unless you know how to remove them. Steam will usually do the job. Try placing a steam iron down to the carpet. Be careful not to make contact though; this will surely melt or burn the fibers. Just place it close enough in order that the steam reaches the surface. Scraping the dent with a coin or spoon is also an effective way to raise dents.
Loose Treads
Loose treads are the worse. Have you ever tried to pull one only to cause part of the rug to unravel? The best solution is to try snipping it with some scissors or toenail clippers.
Burns
Carpet burns are most common in households where there is smoking. It can also occur by mistakenly burning the fibers while ironing on the floor. It is much better to simply use an ironing board and smoke outdoors. However, these burn areas can be repaired by cutting out the burned section and placing a new carpet patch of matching color in its place.
